LPL Financial, the Boston-based broker-dealer firm, said it has hired a Dell Inc. executive to be its new chief information officer.

LPL named Victor Fetter to the post, as well as director of the company’s Business Technology Services business unit, starting next week. Fetter, 44, was previously vice president and chief information officer of Dell online. Before that, he was global information chief for Mercer Human Resources Consulting.

Fetter replaces Chris Feeney, who is retiring. He will be based in Charlotte and will report to LPL chief executive Mark Casady.
