Brian McGrory named Globe’s new editor

Brian McGrory, a 23-year veteran of The Boston Globe who has led groundbreaking coverage of corruption as an editor and whose columns have made him an essential voice in the region, will become the news organization’s next editor.

McGrory, 51, will take over the job immediately, replacing Martin Baron, who left last week to become editor of The Washington Post. McGrory will report to Globe publisher Christopher M. Mayer.

Congratulations! Wonderful choice!

Congratulations Brian, excellent choice.

We will miss your columns. We wish you continued success.

Time to run a story, Brian, on the "Spanish stolen baby scandal", a huge international story that the Globe has so far not reported about -- neither has the Wall Street Journal, and the New York Time did one article on July 7, 2011  (Google it and see).

My house will miss reading your column but we hope to hear your voice in other ways.  Your writing and atetntion to detail gladdened the heart of this English major.  Please let that attention and care shine through the print and media journalism you will oversee.  Best of luck.

Say it isn't so - how can I go on without Brian's columns????????  Congratulations to Brian on a well deserved promotion, but can't you PLEASE write a column once in a while.  Going cold turkey is going to kill me;  how about a column once in a while to let us do withdrawal gradually? You are truly an awesome writer and a treat to read.

Ruth, a loyal fan.

These are my remarks posted on your final column. You viewed a set of facts about a particular issue and then clearly stated your opinion in exceptionally well written English. I also enjoyed your visits as a commentator and guest fill-in on Jim and Margery and appearances on Greater Boston - keep going there. In my opinion, your columns could be used for not only journalism classes but for English classes from the middle school through the high school based on the fact of your published columns. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Good Health, Good Luck as Editor and Thanks.

Stellar choice!
