The market for telepresence robots is projected to reach $13 billion by 2017, Philip Solis of ABI Research was quoted as saying by The New York Times. The story noted some doctors already see patients in remote hospitals with the RP-VITA, a robot developed by iRobot Corp., of Bedford, and a California firm. Such “remote presence devices” could let managers inspect overseas factories, sales people greet customers, and family members check on elderly relatives, for example.
