29 million travelers set Logan record

Surge in visitors from Asia, better economy cited; hotels benefit, too

With more foreign travelers visiting Boston than ever, 2012 has turned into a record year for the Massachusetts travel industry.

Logan International Airport is expected to host more than 29 million passengers this year, its second consecutive passenger record. Meanwhile, hotels in Boston and Cambridge reported having more rooms booked than ever, pushing occupancy to 80 percent.

Comments

As a frequent flier who travels every week, I believe that direct flights from Logan does not co-relate with the business climate and hence there are so few direct flights available for domestic and international travel. This is not the case with cities like Charlotte or Atlanta which have one of the best travel options compared to Boston which does not imply that the respective cities have greater economic prosperity. Rail travel in the country is not economically feasible as it's too spread out and not profitable. Air travel remains the only way if you have to travel to different pockets of the country.
