Holiday sales growth appeared to slow as gridlock in Washington soured consumers’ moods and Hurricane Sandy disrupted shopping, MasterCard Advisors SpendingPulse said. Last month, retailers from Macy’s to Target posted same-store sales that trailed analysts’ estimates. The SpendingPulse data is the first major snapshot of holiday sales. A clearer picture will emerge in the coming week as retailers such as Macy’s and Target report monthly sales.
