WTKK switches to music format

WTKK-FM made its switch from talk to music Wednesday, rebranding itself as Power 96.9 with an urban contemporary format at the conclusion of the final “Jim & Margery” morning show, hosted by Jim Braude and Margery Eagan.

A format change by WTKK, a talk radio station since 1999, had been reported for weeks, but Greater Media Inc., the owner, did not make an announcement until Tuesday and kept the music genre a secret until it unveiled the new name and slogan — “Jamz for Boston” — for the station on Wednesday. The first song played under the new format was Rihanna’s “Diamonds.”

Damn. I was hopin' for a rap station named SAJH.FM (shuckin' an' jivin' in da hood). Whatever it be, it has to be better than Jim the winnie and large mouth Marge.

The low ratings was due to the programing time slots of Micheal Graham and that guy between Jim and Marjory and Micheal Smerconish.  The latter two were great and will be sorely missed.  I tried listening yesterday.  Music was run of the mill and nothing to turn in for.

What a loss.

For that crucial 65 year old white guy demographic, the new format misses the target. I will not listen, but will follow WTKK's plight with a great deal of interest.
