American Express cutting 5,400 jobs

LOS ANGELES (AP) — American Express Co. said Thursday that it will slash roughly 5,400 jobs, mainly in its travel business, as it seeks to cut costs and transform its operations as more of its customers shift to online portals for booking travel plans and other needs.

The job cuts will be partly offset by jobs that the company expects to add this year, however.

These days the questions Americnas must ask themselves when they hear news like this is - are these jobs really being eliminated? or is American Express pulling a "Jay Hooley" "State Street Corporation" and are these jobs really being shipped off to INDIA in a Joint venture with a firm that is probably being sunsidized by the INDIAN government like SYNTEL Corporation whose American office is located in TROY MI. The next thing you know American Express corp will send an HR representative to speak to WGBH and tell the station they "have no comment" on any "Private Partnerships they are engaged in".. http://www.wgbh.org/programs/Greater-Boston-11/episodes/July-19-2012State-Street-outsourcing-40276
