Juice aisle stalwart Ocean Spray unveils drinks for the chilled beverage case

Juice aisle stalwart Ocean Spray said it is unveiling new cranberry and blueberry-based beverages that are designed to be sold in the supermarket’s chilled juice-and-beverage case.

Ocean Spray, an agricultural cooperative whose headquarters campus straddles the Lakeville and Middleborough line, has long had a presence in supermarket aisles that display juices and juice-based beverages. Now Ocean Spray is looking to gain a foothold in the refrigerated beverage cases of grocery stores as well.

Presumably, part of the strategy is to get the Ocean Spray brand in front of as many consumer eyeballs as possible.

The new refrigerated products are Premium Cranberry and Blueberry Juice Beverages, and they are being sold in 59-ounce carafes for a suggested retail price of $3.99, Ocean Spray said.

Ocean Spray added that its new beverages are a result of an ongoing alliance with PepsiCo., whose beverage portfolio includes the Tropicana juice brand.

“The new products and alliance with Tropicana will provide entry into a new category and aisle in stores, furthering our brand reach and continuing to build brand equity,” Ocean Spray said.

Ocean Spray posted fiscal 2012 gross sales of $2.2 billion and net proceeds of $338 million.
