Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce praises Obama comments on immigration reform

Paul Guzzi, president and chief executive of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, praised President Obama’s comments on immigration reform in Tuesday night’s State of the Union address.

“The chamber applauds President Obama for highlighting the need for skilled worker immigration reform” in his State of the Union address,” Guzzi said in a statement. “The president’s remarks reflect the growing, bipartisan support in Washington to improve our nation’s access to top international talent, as part of broader based immigration reform. Reform is needed to ensure that we continue to attract and retain highly-skilled workers, graduates, and entrepreneurs from across the globe.”

The chamber recently launched Business for Skilled Worker Immigration, a national coalition of 38 Chambers of Commerce from across the country; the coalition is working to advance skilled worker immigration reform as a means of driving job creation, innovation, and overall economic growth.

These reforms are essential to the long-term competitiveness of the Bay State’s knowledge-based economy, Guzzi said.
