MIT professor Robert Langer was recently awarded the 2013 Presidential Medal of Technology and Innovation, and his innovations include an anti-frizz technology that he and his team developed for hair-care products now being pitched by Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston.
Among many other accomplishments, Langer is the founding scientist of Living Proof, a technology-based beauty and hair-care company that just announced the closing of a $30 million financing.
“The financing was supported by new institutional investors including Leerink Swann, and joined by existing investor and company founder Polaris Partners, as well as the Pohlad Family Capital Fund,” Cambridge-based Living Proof said in a press release.
The press release added that Living Proof “recently launched its first national marketing campaign with actress and entrepreneur Jennifer Aniston, a company co-owner and hair product spokesperson.”
Living Proof was founded by Jon Flint and Amir Nashat of Polaris Partners and Langer.
In a statement, Flint said, “In addition to accelerating market penetration, this major financing will give us the fuel we need to continue our original vision: bringing together some of the most brilliant scientists in medicine to create proprietary beauty products that truly work.”
According to the company, its hair care products can be found at such salons and retailers as Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom, and QVC as well as at Livingproof.com.Chris Reidy can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
