Ernie Boch Jr., head of the Norwood-based Boch Enterprises car business, issued a statement Friday saying he is interested in being a bidder for the Boston Globe, which is being sold by The New York Times Co.

Boch, who was not available for comment, said in the statement that he is “exploring the opportunity of purchasing the Boston Globe.”
