82 Apps wins Game Challenge Grand Prize at MassDiGi competition

The Massachusetts Digital Games Institute, or MassDiGi, said that a Cambridge company called 82 Apps has won Grand Prize honors in the second Annual MassDiGI Game Challenge.

The Game Challenge is a pitch contest designed to help indie and student game-development entrepreneurs hone their ideas and get their products ready for launch. Forty-four teams from around New England competed in this year’s event, which was held on March 1 and March 2.

The winning entry from 82 Apps is titled PWN, a futuristic game about competitive hacking.

“Our first Game Challenge in 2012 was a big success, but 2013 has really blown last year’s event out of the water – in more ways than one,” Monty Sharma, MassDiGI’s managing director, said in a statement.

Sharma added, “The talent we have seen in this competition promises a bright future for game development in the region!”

MassDiGI, based at Becker College in Worcester, is a statewide center for academic collaboration, entrepreneurship, and economic development across the local games ecosystem.
