City Sports gears up for a Chestnut Hill store opening

City Sports, a Boston-based retail that sells athletic footwear and apparel, is gearing up for the March 16th grand opening of its new store in Chestnut Hill.

Until recently, the chain operated a store at the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center. When the shopping center’s owner and manager, WS Development, upgraded and rebranded the place as The Street Chestnut Hill, City Sports decided to close its old store and replace it with a snazzier, larger one.

(The shopping center’s new name of The Street Chestnut Hill was chosen to better reflect its “transformation into a walkable retail and entertainment complex,” WS Development said late last year.)

With more than 9,200 square feet of space, the new City Sports store will look to provide “the ultimate shopping experience for the urban athlete,” especially for urban athletes who are women.

“The brand’s signature women’s offering showcases an updated pant wall and one of the most comprehensive sports bra collections available anywhere in retail,” the chain said in a media advisory. “City Sports’ established footwear department also gets an upgrade with an in-store track and treadmill to test out more than 300 styles.”

According to City Sports, the opening of its new store coincides with the chain’s 30th anniversary.

The chain added that it plans to open another store in New York City by the end of the month.

City Sports currently operates about 20 stores with locations in Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington, D.C.
