Education: B.A. in Social Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts at Boston, 1976; and a joint M.S. in Environmental Health Engineering, and Urban and Environmental Planning and Policy from Tufts University, 1981.

Career highlights: Served as an official in the Massachusets Office of Energy and Enviromental Affairs under four governors, including Mitt Romney; helped craft tough air pollution rules that cleaned up the “Filthy Five,” the dirtiest coal fired power plants in Massachusetts; was Commissioner of Connecticut’s Department of Enviromental Protection.
