Medical marijuana businesses see opportunity in Mass.

DENVER — Kayvan Khalatbari rings up more than $1 million in annual sales at Denver Relief, the medical marijuana dispensary he runs out of a downtown storefront, and business keeps getting better.

But rather than opening an additional store, Khalatbari, 29, is expanding in a different direction: He has been devoting more time to doing lucrative consulting work for about 15 fledgling cannabis entrepreneurs who are interested in setting up shop in Massachusetts.

Oh Donna Rheaume, I realize this is legal, I realize everyone has a right to make a living, to make as much money as possible, but Medical Marijuana Public Relations? Really? After being the spokeswoman for the MA Dept of Public Health, is this really the direction you want for your career? I know that everybody has to pay the mortgage, but is this really how you want to put your kids through college?

@PL : I understand your points. But, being realistic, wouldn't a move from MA DPH to Cannabis Consulting be a move UP!? Think about it!! :-D Peace..

Hip Hip Hooray!! Make this happen folks. However, work on the Federal Level as well. Cannabis is still illegal in the Feds eyes..

The lawyer's going to have lots of work. Eventually, in a couple of decades or so, these folks are going have to settle the same kinds of lawsuits the tobacco industry had to deal with. There's no way shooting hot gas into your lungs on a consistent basis over a long period of time can be good for you and, with no warning labels on the product, these folks are a lawsuit waiting to happen. As for their other products, those strike me as a safer alternative use of the product and things that could actually be medical use so with some further research about health effects this could be found out.

Despite all this "excitement" about business opportunities, and using a Denver business as an example, why didn't the reporter note, as the Denver Post reported just four days ago, that medical marijuana businesses in Colorado have declined by 40 percent, from 1,131 at the end of 2010 to 675 today. That would have been a nice statistic to include in this business story.

And by the way, when can we expect a story about the real medical aspects of "medical" marijuana?

As soon as scientists are legally permitted to research the benefits of medical marijuana.

Talk about the hipocracy of the loonie left.

Tobacco Smokers are vile creatures - a group to be shunned and discriminated against.  Tobacco companies are evil.

Pot Smokers are wonderful.  Pot dispensaries are glorious, doing nothing but good.  (even Mass Liberals are smart enough to understand this is not about medical pot...its about making pot available)

The Syphilitic Brain of the average liberal on display...

(I smoke nothing - legal or otherwise..)

Why can't you stop polarizing this as a, yet another! "liberal" vs conservative issue.

Well.... I'm sure there are some issues that don't fall across party lines...

Do you really think this is one of them?

How many liberals are against, and how many conservatives for?

It may be legalized, but all the towns are putting things on hold while they "study the situation". It's like "tabling" something in the legislature, never to be seen again.

Not quite, the DPH was unprepared for the election result, and is trying to develop policies. It has only been a few months. No town government will proceed until they are confident they can follow these policies. This time next year, probably sooner, there will be MMJ dispenseries in Massachusetts. MA voters overwelming support this.
