Two members of the Taylor family that formerly owned The Boston Globe have teamed up with a group that includes former Time Inc. chief executive Jack Griffin and are expected to make a bid to buy the paper later this month, according to people briefed on the matter.

A second group, led by Heb Ryan, a private equity executive in Boston, and Rick Daniels, a former Globe president, are also expected to submit a bid.

Both groups declined to comment Friday.

Investment bankers for The New York Times Co., which owns the Globe, have set a deadline of April 18 for initial bids from potential buyers, according to people briefed on the matter.

Offers from the two groups or any other potential bidders would not be binding. After bids are submitted, the Times Co. and its bankers at Evercore Partners will decide who to invite to make final offers.
