UnitedHealth expects costs to rise about 3 percent in 2013.

UnitedHealth Group, the top provider of Medicare Advantage plans, said funding cuts for privately run versions of Medicare force it to reconsider profit goals. Medicare (for elderly and disabled people) may cut reimbursemments 4 percent next year. Medicare Advantage plans cover extras like dental care and brought in 20 percent of UnitedHealth’s revenue last year. The insurer says it will be hard to reach the top end of its forecast for per-share earnings of $5.25 to $5.50.
