Interest in computer science lags in Mass. schools

Offerings limited for advanced courses

In an era of crowded classrooms, students in the computer science class at Malden High School had plenty of room to spread out as they whiled away the final hours of the school year tinkering with programming code.

Of the school’s 1,850 students, just 16 took its most advanced computer science course in the academic year just concluded, reflecting a pattern statewide.
