Velcro Industries opens in Boston

Velcro Industries, a company known for its “fastening solutions,” said it has opened an office in Boston’s Financial District that will be home to about 30 employees.

The company has its strongest North American presence in New Hampshire with 700 employees, many of them working out of an office in Manchester. The company’s European headquarters is in Barcelona.

Velcro Industries president and chief executive Alain Zijlstra envisions doubling the size of the company, and opening a Boston office is one element of that strategy.

“Through organic growth, geographic expansion, licensing, and acquisition, we are poised to continue to grow the size of the company,” Zijlstra said in a statement. “Opening an office in Boston allows us to be one step closer to achieving our goal of global development and continued innovation.”

Many consumers are familiar with Velcro Brand products. But Velcro Brand is also used in a variety of medical applications from blood pressure cuffs to X-ray cloth. Other customers include pet food manufacturers that use the company’s PRESS-LOK product in their packaging. And when construction companies want to attach solar panels to a roof, they sometimes turn to Velcro Industries products.
