Cooler weather helps lower gas price in Mass.

The average price of gasoline in Massachusetts has dropped 18 cents in the last month, to $3.47 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to a weekly survey by AAA Southern New England. That is 8 cents higher than the national average, but about 40 cents lower than it was at this time last year.

The drop is at least partly seasonal: demand typically falls in the winter months, and refiners start producing a cheaper blend of fuel more suitable for the colder weather.
