The deal is off: Shares of Scripps Networks Interactive Inc. slumped after The Wall Street Journal reported that talks about merging the cable network operator — it owns HGTV and the Food Network, among other things — with Discovery Communications had ended without any results. The merger talks did not go far enough to consider terms or a price, the Journal reported. Discovery will refocus on overseas expansion, which had been its focus before the talks.
