Governor Deval Patrick welcomed Emirates Airlines to Logan International Airport Monday as the carrier inaugurated daily nonstop service to its hub in Dubai.
The first flight was scheduled to take off Monday night, with most of its 266 seats filled.
Patrick has actively sought to boost Logan’s direct connections to business hubs overseas. Emirates has dozens of connections from Dubai to cities that are popular with Boston travelers in India, Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore.
A round-trip economy flight costs $1,500.
“Boston in very dynamic in its thinking and its aspirations,” said airline president Timothy Clark. The city is “trying to encourage airlines to come here because of that need to engage with other parts of the world.”
