Dr. Joanne Mather Conroy will head Lahey Hospital

Lahey Health System, a Burlington-based network of hospitals and primary care doctor practices, said Tuesday that Dr. Joanne Mather Conroy will become chief executive of one of its hospitals, Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, on July 10.

Lahey Hospital, also located in Burlington, is a teaching hospital of Tufts University School of Medicine.

Conroy will join Lahey Hospital & Medical Center from the Association of American Medical Colleges in Washington, D.C. In 2011, Conroy was selected by Modern Healthcare as one of top 25 influential women in health care. According to Becker’s Hospital Review, just 19 percent of hospital chief executives are women.

In 2012, Lahey Clinic merged with Northeast Health System to form a hospital network that stretches from the northwestern Boston suburbs to Cape Ann under the leadership of Dr. Howard G. Grant.

Grant will continue as chief executive of Lahey Health System after Conroy assumes the role of chief executive of Lahey Hospital & Medical Center.
