The average price for gas in Massachusetts is $3.68 a gallon in the latest weekly AAA survey, up 4 cents from the previous week’s average, AAA Southern New England said Monday.
According to AAA, unrest in Iraq has affected gas prices nationwide.
“The average price of $3.68 per gallon is the highest price recorded nationally on this
date in six years,” Mary Maguire, AAA Southern New England director of public and
legislative affairs, said in a statement. “Much of the attention of global market watchers is on the violence in Iraq and the potential impact on the oil producing capability of that country.”
In Massachusetts, gas prices are 3 cents higher than they were a month ago.
The current Massachusetts average price is the same as the current national price this week, AAA Southern New England said.
A year ago at this time, the Massachusetts average price was 20 cents lower at $3.48 a gallon.
In the latest Massachusetts weekly survey, there was a 36-cent price range, from a low of $3.53 to a high of $3.89.
AAA’s weekly surveys focus on the price of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas.
