US stocks climb as Bernanke sees ‘scope for further action’

Stocks rose, reversing an earlier loss after Fed chief Ben Bernanke said he saw “scope for further action,” raising speculation the bank will act to boost economic growth. A US report earlier showed that demand for US capital goods dropped in July sent indexes lower. Nine out of 10 groups in the S&P 500 gained, with telephone stocks rising the most.
