There are 4,700 workers at Roche Bros.’ 20 stores, and the average job tenure of a full-time employee is more than 11 years.

“They have a great opportunity to develop long-term relationships with the people they work with,” said Aimee Morgida, the company’s director of operations. “They get to know each other’s skill set, the value someone can bring, and where they might need more support.”

Morgida said employee loyalty creates a family-like environment in the grocery stores, at corporate headquarters, and even outside the workplace. If someone’s parent passes away, for example, it’s not unusual to attend a wake and find a line out the door of Roche Bros. workers waiting to pay their respects.

“You can’t describe it,” she said. “People show up. We really are a family.”
