As participants in Corporate Volunteer Day: Many Globe employees, friends and families joined volunteers from corporations across Boston in this Boston Cares sponsored day. Globe employees landscaped at Miliken Reservation in Cohasset, sorted children’s items at Cradles to Crayons in Quincy, and cleaned up parks part of Savin Hill Civic Association. As E-Pen Pals: Employees are electronic mentors to a class of 25 journalism students from Media Communications High School, helping the students realize the importance of writing both in school and the workplace.

As Participants in National Groundhog Shadow Day: Through the Private Industries Council 70 students from three Boston high schools spent a day shadowing employees in various departments throughout the Globe.

As Habitat for Humanity volunteers: A team of the Boston Globe Finance Department participated in a Habitat Day to help in the framing, siding and window installation of a group of new units on Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester. A group of Advertising employees went last fall. The project is ongoing, and Habitat for Humanity and the Globe welcome new groups to participate! View gallery.

In Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness: in recognition of Susan Komen Pink Day, Globe employees came together wearing their pink attire, raising a total of $4500 in one day, to be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

As Big Brothers and Big Sisters: Each week, more than 20 Globe employees mentor their “littles” at McCormack Middle and Dever Elementary schools.

In supporting Rosie’s Place: Last March, employees donated more than 15 boxes and bags of much needed toiletries, which were sorted and distributed to the women at Rosie’s Place.

At Pine Street Inn: Each month, Globe employees travel to the Pine Street Inn to serve a hot supper to clients of the Pine Street Inn. This dedicated group of volunteers has been contributing their time and energy to Pine Street for several years.

At the Greater Boston Food Bank: Globe employees have participated in the “Corporate Challenge” at the Food Bank, working in teams to sort and package thousands of pounds of food for distribution at local food pantries and shelters.

Supporting U.S. Troops overseas: Globe Patriots is agrassroots group of Globe employees who send boxes of items to Globe family members serving in Iraq.

Team Globe: Globe employee volunteers participate in Red Cross, United Way, Pink Day and Groundhog Job Shadow Day annually, as well as a back to school project with Cradles to Crayons that donates new school supplies to children.
