In 2002 and 2003, The Boston Globe Foundation completed a strategic planning process that led to the selection of our three new issue-based focus areas and our Neighbor To Neighbor initiative.
Our Mission:
Empower community-based organizations to effect real change in the areas of greatest need, where we are uniquely positioned to add the most value.

|
Our Overall Strategies: |
• |
Seek out and partner with a small number of organizations/initiatives best situated to make a difference and effect real change. |
• |
Commit to significant multi-year investments in a small number of flagship initiatives/partnerships. |
• |
Leverage the many resources The Globe can bring to the table, and coordinate to increase synergy (financial, human, in-kind, etc.). |
• |
Within and across our focus areas, encourage collaboration among organizations in our portfolio to maximize the value of our investments. |
• |
Build capacity and strengthen the organizations in our portfolio (e.g., governance, technology, communication, sustainability). |
• |
Continually measure and evaluate the effectiveness of our partnerships. |
