In 2002 and 2003, The Boston Globe Foundation completed a strategic planning process that led to the selection of our three new issue-based focus areas and our Neighbor To Neighbor initiative.

Strengthen the reading, writing and critical thinking of young people, while fostering their inherent love of learning

Our Overall Strategies:

Seek out and partner with a small number of organizations/initiatives best situated to make a difference and effect real change.

Commit to significant multi-year investments in a small number of flagship initiatives/partnerships.

Leverage the many resources The Globe can bring to the table, and coordinate to increase synergy (financial, human, in-kind, etc.).

Within and across our focus areas, encourage collaboration among organizations in our portfolio to maximize the value of our investments.

Build capacity and strengthen the organizations in our portfolio (e.g., governance, technology, communication, sustainability).

Continually measure and evaluate the effectiveness of our partnerships.
