What: We strengthen the roads that link people to culture, by focusing on mid-size arts organizations that create new and accessible public opportunities to bring people together for cultural enrichment. A focus on high school age young people, whether in or out of school, is preferred.
We acknowledge the creative economy as an engine that contributes to Boston’s excellence, our quality of life, and our ability to attract, retain and develop the young adults who will drive our region’s continued success.
Flagship Partnerships:
Artists for Humanity:Our investment makes it possible for AFH to add new areas of art and job training for teens, including a Web Design studio, thus expanding both the number and depth of the art experiences available to even more urban teens. Our grant also supports the Photography Studio, especially as they provide photography to Boston T.i.P. http://www.afhboston.com/
Project: Think Different: An organization focused on empowering individuals to use their creative voice in the media arts to promote a participatory culture of engagement, our funding will help Project: Think Different expand their Youth Media Institute. This will give Boston youth “active arts” tools to build community, promote change and become future leaders in the creative economy. Project: Think Different will also develop a Youth Advisory Panel that will guide the development of interactive media literacy workshops, collaborate with the Globe on projects for T.i.P. youth and the Media Matters Writing Conference. http://www.projectthinkdifferent.org
Scholastic Art Awards: For more than 55 years the Boston Globe has sponsored the Massachusetts Scholastic Art Awards, an art competition that pulls in some of the most inspired and talented artwork from across the state, all done by middle and high school students. The competition awards Gold and Silver Keys to the best pieces in categories such as drawing, sculpting, photo and digital imagery. The Boston Globe awards over $8,000 in scholarships during the competition each year.
