Reinforcing public suspicion

Having installed former councilor Maureen E. Feeney as city clerk under less than honorable circumstances a year ago, the Boston City Council abruptly renewed her appointment this month until 2016 — with no questions asked or answered, and no notice to the public. The move was all the more disappointing because the earlier wrangling raised legitimate questions about how the clerk’s office is run.

Moments after winning another term as president of the Boston City Council recently, Stephen J. Murphy pushed through a surprise vote to reappoint Feeney, who had been his political ally on the council. The other current councilors learned of the vote just before it occurred, but none objected.

Tammany Hall; Boston style.

You've got to kidding me....

First you pay to have her sitting on her butt waiting for you to show up, then you get to pay her to actually DO something.  Yessir, welcome to Massachusetts.....the Spirit of America....actually not, since this sort of thing is not typically done in most other places.

Perhaps some of the additional revenue from Deval's proposed 19% tax increase could be used to supplement Maureen's meager income.

I thought it was the mayor's job to "to provide oversight of city government."  The job of city clerk should be abolished.   The city council should be abolished.  The state and the city have made almost no effort to clean up this kind of bs.  Why?  Because they're all in this together and to hell with the taxpayers.  And now Deval wants us to give him 19% more money.  Incredible, if I do say so myself.

It is the mayor's job to be an administrator _ but, now he is a sick man of 70 years of age.

The community cannot see evidence of his administration skills or accomplishments _ because he  cannot do much of anything but be a political force behind Democrats and of course be his own publicity machine.

Lousy legacy for a man who has been mayor since 1993. . .

And the sheepish Democratic voters nod their heads and do as they are told.
