Actor Jake Johnson, best known as Nick on “New Girl,’’ was in Boston Wednesday to promote his hit Fox comedy, which has its season finale next week. The Chicago native - who also appears with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in the big screen adaptation of “21 Jump Street’’ - was nice enough to stop by the Globe for an online chat with readers. He told his local fans all about his costar Zooey Deschanel, his Tuesday night trip to Fenway Park, his upcoming movie projects (which include “Safety Not Guaranteed’’ with Aubrey Plaza), and his hopes for Theo Epstein and his hometown Cubs. Here are a few questions from the chat with Johnson’s answers.

Fan: Will [Deschanel’s “New Girl’’ character] Jess and [Johnson’s character] Nick forever be Sam & Diane?

Jake Johnson: “Cheers’’ is my favorite show of all time. Any reference to Sam and Diane truly makes me happy. “Cheers’’ is why I first wanted to come visit Boston back in the day.

Roy: How is it working with Zooey? Is she as crazy off camera as she is on?

Jake Johnson: Working with Zooey is a lot of fun. She is similar to her character, but also a different person. She does like to sing and crack jokes. She’s a blast to work with.

Julie: So what is Nick Miller’s favorite drink? And can I buy him one? Catalyst. Cambridge.

Jake Johnson: Heisler beer. It’s what he is also drinking in the loft. They only exist in the world of “New Girl,’’ though.

Emily: You’re so hilarious on the show. What’s your favorite show on TV right now? (Besides “New Girl,’’ of course.)

Jake Johnson: I love “30 Rock’’ and “Louie.’’

Rebecca: What did you do in Boston? Sorry about the weather. . . :(

Jake Johnson: Love it. Fenway blew me away.

Scott: Hey Jake, as an avid Cubs fan, how did you react to getting Theo?

Jake Johnson: I am really excited about Theo. Obviously the Cubs are in trouble, but I saw what he did with you guys and I’d love to be next.
