Mickey Avalon makes it to Boston - barely

The eccentric - and perpetually shirtless - LA rocker Mickey Avalon checked into the newly rebranded Revere Hotel Boston Common with girlfriend Sierra Young after his show at the Middle East in Cambridge. Avalon almost didn’t make it to Boston after one of the wheels on his tour bus caught fire on the way from New York. . . . More than 800 people packed Sanders Theatre to hear author Erik Larson talk about “In the Garden of Beasts,’’ his book about the ambassadorship of William Dodd during the rise of Hitler. . . . Mayor Tom Menino stopped by Mass. Eye and Ear as part of the hospital’s annual nurses dinner and celebration, and we’re told Hizzoner had the audience in stitches while sharing his own hospitalization stories. . . . At the Garden last night to watch the C’s battle the Hawks in Game 6 of their NBA playoff series were former Celtic Dana Barros, Pats players Deion Branch, Donte Stallworth, and Vince Wilfork, and Revs captain Shalrie Joseph, along with former Revs star and current ESPN analyst Taylor Twellman.
