Estelle Parson at the annual Lilly Awards

Recalling her restive youth in Marblehead, where she credits the community theater for giving her “the ability to go on living,” 84-year-old actress Estelle Parsons delivered the invocation for the third annual Lilly Awards — a woman-centric theater honor named for Lillian Hellman — in New York Monday. (Though she won an Oscar for best supporting actress for her role as Blanche Barrow in “Bonnie and Clyde,” Parsons is perhaps best known for playing Roseanne’s mom on the sitcom “Roseanne.”) Among the honorees at the Lilly Awards was American Repertory Theater artistic director Diane Paulus, whose “The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess” is up for 10 Tonys Sunday.
