‘American Idol’ winner excited to perform at benefit

Season 10 “American Idol” winner Scott McCreery. (Handout)

The two phases of Scott McCreery’s life: Before “Idol” and After “Idol.” Before the North Carolina native won it all on “American Idol,” he spent summer days sleeping late. “Or I might go to the lake down the street with a couple of the fellows,” he told us. But since winning the 10th season title, there’s no time for fooling around. McCreery is busy making appearances, like at the New England Warrior Benefit, which he’ll headline July 3 at the Seaport World Trade Center. (Organized by Joe Fallon’s Fallon Family Charitable Foundation, the event raises money for families of killed and wounded US Special Forces troops.) “I get to make albums, meet people, and do stuff like this,” said McCreery, whose first CD went platinum. “I like that I can do something positive with my music.” Even though he’s a country singer, McCreery said he got along well with “Idol” judge Steven Tyler. “I’d see him before I went on and he’d offer me advice. It meant a lot to me to have a megastar living legend do that,” he said. And what does McCreery think of Tyler’s vocal stylings? “You can’t not be a fan of Aerosmith.”
