Crimes near movie sets not so rare

The MBTA bus accident and stabbing that occurred in Dudley Square during the filming of Sandra Bullock’s Boston comedy “The Heat” weren’t the first disasters to happen right down the street from a local movie set. In October 2009, on the same day that Ben Affleck filmed a bank robbery scene for “The Town,” a real bank was robbed just blocks away on Hanover Street. Massachusetts Film Commissioner Lisa Strout told us yesterday by e-mail that problems can come up no matter where you film. “Random acts can occur anywhere in the world. Movie companies on location are equipped to deal with all sorts of situations on a daily basis.” . . . In other “Heat” news, Variety reports that Weymouth North High School grad Rob Corddry, who’s already signed up for the local movie “The Way, Way Back,” is in talks to join the comedy.
