Events: Gloucester and Providence cyclo-cross races

GREAT BREWERS' GRAN PRIX OF GLOUCESTER

When: Sept. 29-30

Where: Stage Fort Park,

Gloucester

What: Cyclo-cross racing, local craft beers, gear expo, kids' race on Sunday at 1:50 p.m.

Food and beer: Including Cape Ann Coffee, Happy Taco, Lebanese Flatbread, Popcorn Girls, Ambies Sausages, Bob's Red Mill oatmeal. The Great Brewers tent will include brews from Allagash, Brewery Ommegang, Victory, Wachusett, Sierra Nevada, and Cape Ann Brewing.

Getting there by car: From Boston, take Interstate 95 north to Route 128. Take exit 14 toward MA-133 West Gloucester/Essex. Continue on MA-133 onto Essex Avenue. Turn right onto Western Avenue, and a slight left onto Hough Avenue. Park is on the left.

By train: Take your bike on the outbound Newburyport/Rockport commuter rail at North Station and get off at the Gloucester stop. The park is near downtown, so make your way to the ocean and head south on Western Avenue for about a mile.

PROVIDENCE CYCLO-CROSS

FESTIVAL

When: Oct. 6-7

Where: Roger Williams Park

What: Cyclo-cross racing, bicycle "Builders Ball" (Oct. 5), Harpoon beer garden, bike swap and gear expo, kids' race.

Food and beer: Including Like No Udder vegan soft serve, Preppy Pig BBQ, Fancheezical grilled cheese, Rocket Fine Street Food, La Strada Wood Fired Pizza, Mijos Tacos, Bad Kat Kupkakes.

Getting there by car: From Boston, take I-95 south to exit 22B and continue on RI-10W toward US-6. Take Elmwood Avenue exit and turn left onto Elmwood. The park will be on the right.

By train: Pack your bike on the Providence/Stoughton commuter rail that leaves South Station, but be prepared for a 3-to-5-mile ride from the Providence Amtrak station. Wend your way to Elmwood Avenue and head south. The park is on the left.
