“Fit for a king” were the words used in announcing the sale of a rare gun to be offered at James D. Julia’s firearms auction Monday and Tuesday at 10 a.m. at its Fairfield, Maine, gallery.

The words were rightly chosen as the gold and silver embellished gun was made for King Louis XV of France by Sebastian Hauschka, one of the great masters of 18th-century German gunmaking. The circa 1735 carbine, which was presented to the king by Prince and Duke August Wilhelm von Braunschweig-Wolfenbuttel, has a $150,000-
$250,000 estimate.
