Menswear designer John Varvatos, known for his rock ’n’ roll vibe, has opened shop in Copley Place. The richly textured space, which has white brick walls, a Persian carpet, and bare light bulbs dangling en masse at its center, mixes classic tailoring with a downtown ’tude. Offerings for fall include gray flannel and inky blue suiting, as well as casual knits and leather, along with edgy luxe accessories. These laceless boat shoes, available in grain leather or semi-nubuck calf skin in over-dyed, moody hues, are sure to be a hit with men in Boston. “Schooner” boat shoes, $198 at John Varvatos, Copley Place, 100 Huntington Ave., Boston, 617-236-8650, www.johnvarvatos.com
