Jacques Pépin has been on the faculty at Boston University since 1983, cofounding (with Julia Child) the master of arts program in gastronomy and the certificate program in the culinary arts, teaching hundreds of students, and reaching thousands more with his seminars, demonstrations, discussions, and cooking events.
On the occasion of the renowned chef’s 27th book, “Essential Pépin: More Than 700 All-Time Favorites From My Life in Food,’’ BU is hosting Pépin and an accomplished array of chefs at an event next week open to the public.
It was Pépin’s idea to have the chefs choose a recipe from the book that showcases their particular restaurants and prepare a tasting portion.
Among the 15-20 invitees are Jamie Bissonnette, Deborah Hansen, Fabrizia Lanza, Michael Leviton, Barry Maiden, Michael Schlow, Jeremy Sewall, and Jasper White.
Every person attending will receive a book (including a 3-hour DVD on cooking techniques), Pépin will be signing, wine and beer and nonalcoholic beverages will be served with the tastings, and there will be music.
