The story behind Bon Savor’s closing

The little Jamaica Plain bistro chugged along after its popular owners went to Bogota on vacation and were prevented from reentering the country. A neighbor restaurateur is opening a spot in the space. Former customers and locals are puzzled and wonder.

When Ibonne Zabala, her husband Oleg Konovalov, and their then-10-m0nth-old son left Boston for Bogota, Colombia, in the fall of 2009 on a vacation, no one - not them and not their neighbors in Jamaica Plain - thought that was the last time the couple would set foot inside their popular Bon Savor resaurant on Centre Street. But when they tried to return from their trip, the family learned their visas had been canceled. As the neighborhood tries to move on, allies are stunned that Bon Savor is gone and its owners won’t be coming back.
