Brian Feulner for the Boston Globe
Their signature frozen pomengranate.
No matter how much Mexican food Boston eats, it seems, we are still hungry for more. One of the latest outposts: Rosa Mexicano, on Seaport Boulevard, not far from Mexican restaurants Temazcal Tequila Cantina and Papagayo. This is the 14th Rosa Mexicano and the first in Boston. The chain started in New York in 1984.
There are local touches. The restaurant features produce from Maine’s Sparrow Arc Farm. And the executive chef is Darren Carbone, formerly of La Verdad. His menu offers dishes for which Rosa Mexicano is known, such as guacamole en molcajete, which is prepared tableside, and esquites. The latter is grilled Mexican corn served off the cob, with ancho chili, cheese, and crema (added shrimp and truffle oil are an option, too). There are plenty of ceviches and tacos, as well as entrees including enchiladas with mole, chicken tortilla pie, and filet mignon with huitlacoche, salsa verde, and blue cheese. Rosa Mexicano also offers a gluten-free menu. For dessert, you’ll find churros, tres leches cake, and more. Margaritas come in several flavors — frozen pomegranate is a signature — along with micheladas (beer cocktails) and sangria.
The restaurant seats 300. Like other Rosa Mexicanos, it features a blue tile water wall. Unlike other Rosa Mexicanos, it has a waterfront patio. That might be the perfect place to satisfy your hunger for Mexican food. Again.
