Recipe for limeade with Thai basil and fresh lavender

Makes about 3 gallons

Photographer Berta Daniels, who is a gardener and do-it-by-instinct cook, makes this cooling, citrusy homemade drink with limes, Thai basil, and lavender flowers.

Juice of 18 limes (save 2 pieces rind)
2gallons of water
1cup sugar
cup fresh Thai basil, chopped
8stems lavender flowers, chopped
2trays ice (about 1 quart)
Extra fresh basil (for garnish)
Extra fresh lavender (for garnish)

1. In a large pitcher, combine the lime juice, lime rind, water, sugar, basil, lavender, and ice. Stir and pour into glasses.

2. Garnish with basil and lavender.
