The second Big Y store in the area, which opened recently in Franklin, inches forward the redefinition of the modern supermarket by making fish and chips with fresh fillets to order, baking pizza in brick ovens, and offering Wi-Fi, USB-charging outlets in the store’s cafe, and two charging stations for electric cars in the parking lot. Another perk for parents of children ages 3 to 9: While mom or dad shops, kids can play under supervision. Guy McFarlane, Big Y’s vice president of fresh foods, says there are dozens of varieties of New England fish, American grass-fed beef, organic poultry, and lots of baked goods.
