Brian and Beth Quinn.
You’re tempted by the aromas of slow-roasted almonds, cashews, peanuts, and pecans even before you enter the new Q’s Nuts outside Davis Square in Somerville. Owner Brian Quinn leaves the door open and the fragrance spreads through the neighborhood. “We’ve been smelling you all week,” he’s been told again and again. Quinn and his wife, Beth, renovated a former convenience store and opened recently, though the couple are experienced in this business. For years, they’ve been selling bags of their own infused nuts, like chocolate pecans, cayenne-mango almonds, and chili cashews through retailers and at farmers’ markets. With the brick-and mortar outlet, they offer 20 flavors, packaged ($3.50 for 2.5- and 3-ounce bags; $7 for 5- and 6-ounce bags) or in bulk ($10 to $17.99 per pound). New tastes include tamarind with cardamom and French herbs. The Quinns also sell dried fruits and Christina’s ice cream, and hope to offer nut butters and chocolates, and cafe tables so customers can linger.
