A new collapsible potato masher won’t jam your drawer

The potato masher is a space hog in your jammed kitchen drawers. But you wouldn’t want to be without one when it’s time to make fluffy mashed potatoes or whip root vegetables. Prepara’s Potato Flip Masher ($20) offers a solution. Squeeze the sides of the stainless steel mashing head and it folds down, allowing it to lie flat and save space. Squeeze again, and the head pops up. The ergonomically designed handle, which comes in black or olive, makes the tool comfortable to use. That bulky masher has finally slimmed down.  Available at KitchenWares by Blackstones, 215 Newbury St., Boston, 857-366-4237; Tags Hardware, Porter Square Shopping Center, 29 White St., Cambridge, 617-868-7711; Eurostoves, 45 Enon St., Beverly, 978-232 0007; Sur La Table locations.  ANN TRIEGER KURLAND
