An art gallery for cookware in Cambridge

Local Root is an art gallery for cookware. White walls, high ceilings, and transom windows are the perfect backdrop for beautifully designed and functional kitchen items. Its mother ship, Didriks, the elegant home shop across the street at 190 Concord Ave. in Observatory Hill,

specializes in contemporary linens, tableware, and serving pieces. In the front room of Local Root, stainless steel is the prominent material. There you’ll encounter the sensual curves of cheese graters with a sloping base ($21), and rounded casseroles and pots (from $145) made by Italian manufacturer Alessi. An adjacent room is devoted mostly to artisanal knives, including six Berti steak knives with ox horn handles (more than $1,000).
