It seems that many people who walk through the door of the two-month-old Lexington food shop MA - France can speak French. The shop is a Francophile’s dream: Everything is imported from France or is French-style. Owners Francois and Cecile Attard recently moved here from Perigord, in France’s Dordogne region, to be with friends in the area. Francois left his job as a policeman and Cecile sold her hair salon. They opened the Lexington store, at first speaking little English but learning quickly by watching TV movies and using an English translation app. “We wanted to start a new life,” says Cecile. MA - France is an unfussy shop, with a small but growing inventory. There are cheeses, including a creamy Prefere de nos Montagnes and the orange hard cheese Mimolette Beffroi, from small producers; foie gras, pates, and cured and smoked meats are made by US purveyor D’Artagnan; baguettes and croissants arrive daily from Pain D’Avignon in Hyannis. Shelves display French imports like mustard, salt, jams, tea in tins, chocolate bars, and packages of pink biscuits to drink with champagne. Francois says customers have welcomed the shop. Says the Frenchman, “Many come in to practice French.” MA - France,
