Recipe for Blueberry and bee pollen smoothie

Wendy Maeda/Globe Staff

Serves 4

Stephen Coe, executive chef of Bokx 109 American Prime, makes this smoothie with his own pollen powder of bee pollen granules, honey, and nectar. Bee pollen granules are available at some supermarkets and health food stores and add a delicate floral taste to sweet and savory dishes. Those who consume bee pollen regularly claim that it gives them energy (those allergic to bees may also be allergic to pollen).

2cups nut, soy, rice, or regular milk
2pints fresh blueberries, strawberries, or other berries or cut-up fruits
2large bananas, frozen and cut into discs
2Medjool dates, pitted and coarsely chopped
2teaspoons fresh ginger, coarsely chopped
2teaspoons bee pollen granules

1. Have on hand four 8-ounce glasses.

2. In blender, combine the milk, blueberries or other fruits, bananas, dates, ginger, and bee pollen.

3. Puree the mixture until smooth. Pour into glasses. Elizabeth Mindreau. Adapted from Bokx 109 American Prime
