‘Feed shares’ pair local foods, chefs

Craft beer. Hannah Hamilton
Farmstead cheese. Craig Panzer

Falling somewhere between a food-of-the-month club and a Community Supported Agriculture program, the Community Shares at City Feed and Supply scratch the itch for locally sourced foods in novel ways. These craft beer and farmstead cheese shares were launched in January; the newest addition to the lineup is a monthly “feed share,” which provides ingredients to make a meal for two using a recipe from a local chef. The shares require a 3- or 6-month commitment, with prices ranging from $99 to $130 (three months) and $189 to $230 (six). Each share brings not only food or drink but also a wealth of information including tasting notes, farm profiles, recipes, and more. Diverse as the offerings are, they share a purpose, says marketing community manager Craig Panzer: “It’s about people having direct access to local foods and strengthening the ties between who’s making the food and who’s eating the food.” City Feed and Supply, 672 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, 617-524-1700 (shares available only at the Centre Street location), www.cityfeedandsupply.com.
