Apotheker’s Handcrafted Chocolate of Jamaica Plain is the result of Russell Apotheker’s efforts to satisfy his wife’s desire for an all-natural indulgence. The elegant, honeycomb-stamped bars ($10.99) come in five flavors: cashew and sea salt, cherry and almond, classic dark, mint, and triple pepper. Each is wrapped in gold foil and packaged in boxes designed by the artists-turned-chocolate-makers. Ingredients are consciously sourced to make the smooth chocolate: cocoa from a small family-owned cooperative, raw tupelo honey from a third-generation beekeeper, and vanilla bean powder that is fairly traded. The chocolates will be certified organic once the bees learn to choose pesticide-free plants. Available at American Provisions, 613 East Broadway, South Boston, 617-269-6100; Boston Cheese Cellar, 18 Birch St., Roslindale, 617-325-2500; Brookline Fine Wine & Gourmet, 27 Harvard St, Brookline, 617-734-5400; City Feed and Supply, 672 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, 617-524-1700; La Qchara, 506 Franklin St., Melrose, 781-662-5555.
